What is vastu (Introduction)
Vaastu is derived from the Sanksrit Word ‘Vaas’ which means ‘to reside’, also mean ‘Aawas’ or ‘Niwas’. The Shaastra of Vaas is known as VaastuShastra .Its an ancient Architectural practice of House Construction. Its use in the construction of Dwelling Structures provides Prosperity, Disease Free Existence and Peaceful Life to its Occupants.
Vaastu embraces the following-
·Study of Arrangement of Land & Buildings.
·Interior Decoration.
·The right way of Living according to the established classical rules.
Vaastu Classic ‘SamaraanganaSoortradhara’ says the word ‘Vaastu’ is derived from ‘Vasu’ or ‘the Earth’. Earth is the primal Vaastu and all the creations situated on the mother Earth are also called ‘Vaastu”. Lord Brahma created Earth so his place is in the middle of VaastuPurush Mandala.
Mayamatam speaks of four kinds of Vaastu. Dwelling Sites are four in number Earth, Temples,Conveyances and Seats. The Earth is the principle dwelling place amongst the foyr.The Vedic word for House is ‘Veshma’ meaning ‘that in which people enter’. The word ‘Vaastu’ , thus cannot be restricted to one meaning only. It’s a collective expression.
